| Captain Jim Ashley started fishing (and caught his first tuna) offshore in Hatteras, NC in 1974 when he was 5 years old. He was "hooked" and started fishing every chance he could. In 1994 Jim moved to Hatteras and started his charter career. He mated on several charter boats over the next few summers while going to college in the winters studying marine technology. In 2001 Jim earned his Captain's license and has been running charter boats from Florida to Martha's Vineyard, which included a two year period where he ran a charter boat on the Island of Kauai in Hawaii. Both years he was the top billfish boat on the Island and during his second year was the second place tuna boat with ahi tuna (tuna over 100 lbs). He was fortunate enough to catch well over 100 blue marlin, many striped marlin and spear fish.
In 2008 Jim upgraded to a masters license, acquired his MMD with able bodied seaman endorsement, unlimited radar observer and a STCW 95 certificate.
In 2009 Jim teamed with Steve Holman running the ENDORFIN where he's had a great summer catching large numbers of billfish. During his inaugural season with the EndorFin he fished two tournaments and placed in both. |
